Tamada manages to obtain important data at Autopolis
Makoto Tamada made his comeback to the Japanese National Championship since 2002. The main purpose of entering this race at Autopolis, was to obtain data for the race at the same track in September for his Asia Road Racing Championship full-entry.
Although Tamada obtained data on official test day on Friday, both Saturday and Sunday ended in wet track conditions. The dry Dunlop tires used at the Japanese Championship is the same tires used in the Asian Championship, but the Japanese Championship uses a newer version of the rain tires than the Asian Championship, so the data obtained would not be as useful for the race in September.
While many riders switched tire manufacturers, Tamada decided to keep on using Dunlop tires throughout the weekend. This would able Dunlop tires to obtain more data of the new rain tires, and would also be useful for the team if Dunlop decides to provide this new tire for the Asian Championship next year.
Tamada qualified 13th. In Race 1, Tamada loses his front brake from a collision in the second lap and had to retire from the race. In Race 2, Tamada finds more speed and finished 11th, which was the 2nd fastest for a Honda rider, and the fastest rider for a Honda rider on Dunlop tires.
