Naomichi Uramoto started his 2021 ESBK Campeonato de España de Superbike at Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto last weekend. This is his 5th consecutive season to be racing in this Championship and will continue with Jeg Racing again this year. The team has switched tires to Pirelli this season, and Uramoto as been testing since his arrival in Spain in mid-March. However, Uramoto found that his Suzuki GSX-R1000 felt a vast difference from the test, and was spending his test sessions on day 1 and day 2 trying to solve the problem. The problem was fixed in the last session of day 2, which did not allow Uramoto and the team to mature is settings before qualifying. On day 3, qualifying took place in the morning, with Race 2 in the afternoon. During qualifying, Uramoto had to continue setting his machine, and at the same time trying to get the best lap, but had to settle for 10th on the grid for Race 1. The time he spent setting up during qualification showed good improvement in Race 1. Starting his race from the 10th grid, Uramoto did not spend time climbing up positions, and by lap 4, he was already 6th. From there on, he engaged in a one-on-one battle with Oscar Gutierrez (Yamaha). Lapping at the same pace with the leaders, Uramoto eventually won the one-on-one battle and finished 4th in Race 1. The top 10 grids in Race 2 at ESBK is decided from the results from Race 1, which made Uramoto start from the 4th grid. Because his lap times were competitive with the top group in Race 1, the team and Uramoto felt optimistic. Although, he dropped back to 6th at start of the race, Uramoto immediately fought back, finishing his first lap in 5th. But at the No.1 turn on Lap 2, Uramoto was taken out by Oscar Gutierrez who tried to pass Alejandro Medina (Kawasaki) who was running behind Uramoto. Gutierrez couldn’t brake on time after passing Medina, and hit Uramoto in the back, which took both of them out in Race 2. Naomichi Uramoto “The first race season was a mixed one for me, finishing 4th in Race 1 and a DNF in Race 2. I was struggling this  weekend so I am happy with a 4th in Race 1, but the gap is still obvious with the race leader, so I plan to further make up my bike by the next round. I thank everyone for the continuous support.” Results ESBK Campeonato de España de Superbike Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto 4/10 – 4/11 Qualify  10th  1.42.606 Race 1  4th    1.42.877 Race 2  DNF   1.45.095 Standings 6th 13 points
